"About the goal today (by Mexican national team athlete Luis Romo), rather than any individual player's mistake, it happened because the signals didn't match between the players and things got tangled up. That part is genuinely disappointing. We lost today, but the team played really well, and I hope we can play even better in the next match, win, and advance."

"Our goalkeeper, Kim Seung-gyu, made a mistake and got scored on. But he has played and defended (South Korea) very well. It was disappointing but a good match overall. I want to say that you athletes did your best."

STORYLINE:

Hundreds of South Korean soccer fans gathered in the Gwanghwamun area to cheer for South Korean national soccer team.

The team lost to Mexico but fans supported their national team with great enthusiasm.

"We lost today, but the team played really well, and I hope we can play even better in the next match, win, and advance," said 29-year old Park Cheol Hwan after the match.

There were also Mexican fans, who started waving a Mexican flag when Luis Romo scored a goal in the second half.

South Korean national team will be playing against South Africa on June 25 to determine which country gets the chance to advance to the next round.
